Cara started dancing at the age of 4. Born in the Northern Cape, her parents made a difficult decision to send her to boarding school in Stellenbosch, where she trained with Marike Hendrikz, Danielle Botha and Martin Schonberg. She received distinctions in all of her RAD examinations. She joined the Cape Junior Ballet Company in 2010 and matriculated at Bloemhof Girls High in the same year.

In the year 2011, she had her first hip operation and struggled to get back to dancing, but with the help of her mentor Marike Hendrikz, she was able to pull it off while studying at the University of Stellenbosch and got offered a contract with the Joburg Ballet Company in 2013. She resigned from the company in 2016 to broaden her horizon and start a new chapter of her life.

The hard, physical and challenging demands of being a professional ballet dancer taught her a lot about the human body and that your mind can be your biggest enemy but also your biggest weapon in achieving your goals.

She lives by the words of Martin Schonberg, “You are born with the body God gave you; you die with the body you deserve.”

Barre Body not only offers a uniquely designed workout for women, but also a positive and safe environment for women to be themselves. Always having to change yourself in the professional ballet world and never being accepted or “good enough” is the sole reason why she wanted to join the Barre Body team. To encourage other women to be themselves but be the best version of themselves that they can possibly be.
